Hi team. I love that there are such a range of ages within silk stars. I’m 43 and my body works in a different way than it used to. I recently had this marvellous experience where after helping our circus hub vacuuming for 1 1/4 hours (!) I found my hips and side split much more flexible and I wondered if I need a lot more warming up than I used to! I can’t vacuum for that long each time before I train so I wonder if anyone knows of any resources specifically talking about aerials and managing our bodies as we get older or after having kids etc etc Thanks!

Our colleague, aerialist Kerry Wee has a great podcast called ‘the expecting aerialist’ that has a lot of interviews with doctors, specialists etc and they discuss aerial after pregnancy, injury etc, you can check it out on itunes if you like 🙂 Great thread topic Caroline!

Caro thanks for bringing this up! I am also curious about how to maintain my aging body as I continue to pursue aerials. At 54 I am really noticing recovery time for me is waaaay longer than it used to be. I normally wake up in pain the day after a training session. As much as I would like to train every other day I feel like my body needs/wants more breaks. Having been a dancer most of my life I am used to feeling the “good” aches and pains (lactic acid build up high LOL) after hard physical exercise . I think the key might be cool downs and better longer warm ups. And Epsom salts. And Chiro. LOL!

Sorry you have been experiencing pain Jenny, you look beautiful up in the air and you would never know! Epsom salts is always a good idea as well as body work (when possible) and massage tools can really help with recovery.

Oh bless you. ! Lord it’s nothing serious really. I am sure we all feel sore after training new/harder tricks! I don’t mind the pain really because it lets me I know I’ve been working and challenging myself. Just need to be mindful and know my limits (and knowing the difference between ‘good’ pain and ‘bad’ pain…) But don’t worry. Most of the time I feel like an absolute BEAST! hahaha 😜💪🏼😏❤️

Wearing lots of warm clothes and doing cardio before each practice helps a lot for me!

Hi all. I’ve just seen two sessions in the Virtual Dance Festival that look like they could be really interesting for both pregnancy/motherhood and aerials and ageing and aerials.

By the way how do I change the name of this thread? I wanted to change it to motherhood and aerials and ageing and aerials or something along those lines….

There’s an Edit button at the bottom of each thread. Brett just changed the name of this thread to “Aging, motherhood and aerial” but feel free to edit again.
